Monday 9th July We invited our 'Father Figures' in to share our construction challenge - make a tower out of spaghetti and jelly babies!
Maths fluency in Year 5
We have been thinking of ways to practise times tables. We used number cards with a partner and practised our times tables and factor knowledge.
In May we were able to take advantage of the good weather and get out into the school grounds with Mrs Hoskins to look at habitats and the adaptations that animals have which enables them to live in certain habitats.
18th May 2018 - Royal Wedding celebration day! We learned a lot about the Royal family and who's who! We shared a whole assembly thinking about British Values and a happy, sunny picnic on the field.
Year 5 have been studying Greek myths. Should Pandora open the box? ........it's very tempting when you have a box in front of you. We walked down conscience alley to try and decide whether or not Pandora should open the box.
Spring has sprung and on May 1st we had a wonderful trip to Marwell Zoo to find out about how animals are suited to the habitat that they live in. We looked at the adaptations that enable certain animals to live in different locations around the world. The workshop was interesting and inspiring and even gave the children the opportunity to see some live animals!
Monday 23rd April 2018 and we did the Bunny Bounce!! We had great fun raising money in an unusual way! Bounce, bounce, bounce!!
Ancient Greece home learning! Many of the children worked really hard over the Easter holidays to find out about an aspect of Ancient Greece. They then shared their home learning with the rest of the year group. I am sure that you will agree that there was some fantastic learning taking place!
Sport Relief 2018! The whole primary school came together to run around the field to raise money for people who are less well off than ourselves. The sun shone and we had a fantastic time.
23rd March 2018 We made Easter hats and some unusual Easter eggs!
7th March 2018 Hampshire Fire Service visited Year 5 and talked about fire safety. The children were able to learn a lot about preventing fires, keeping themelves safe in a fire and heard about keeping themselves safe in other situations too. Have they discussed with you your family's fire evacuation procedure yet?
2018 World Book Day - some awesome costumes, well done to all involved!!
31st January 2018 Using a chapter from the book The Iron Man, the children located the places from around the world that the book talked about. They worked in teams using maps and atlases.
On January 22nd the Year 5 children went to the Science Centre in Winchester to find out more about different forces and also visit the Planetarium and learn more about their topic on Space.
19th December 2017 Year 5 loved sharing their Anglo Saxon and Viking learning with their families. The comments from parents was positive and supportive of the great learning that the children do at Brockhurst Primary School.
Maths fluency! The children in Falcons are working really hard at learning their times tables together with the related division facts! All children have a 12x12 multiplication grid to practise with at home and we compete as teams every day on the Hit The Button website! The record is 25 correct answers in one minute....can you beat that?!
Well done to Lucy from Falcons who came second in Caroline Dinenage's christmas card competition. We think her design is fab!!
Thursday 30th November. It was very exciting watching our boats burn, sending our Anglo Saxon / Viking to the afterlife.

Our topic this term is Anglo Saxons and Vikings. The children were asked to complete some home learning about the topic and present it in any way they wanted. As you can see, many of the children were very inventive!!
20th October 2017 Inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons, we used our senses around the school grounds to inspire us to write poetry which some of us read in the harvest church service.
10th October 2017 In English, interviewing a partner for a newspaper quote about the Highwayman being killed.
27-9-17 We have looked at the Willow Pattern story in guided reading and have used the famous willow pattern picture to design our own Willow Pattern plates.
